Sato's Culinary Voyage

Sato's Culinary Voyage

With a dream firmly planted in his heart, the infamous Sato was trained as a pastry chef, sushi chef, and French chef from a young age in Japan. By 1979, at the tender age of 21, the journey to the United States was embarked upon, with ambitions to open his own restaurant. The initial step in this gastronomic adventure was taken as a hibachi chef at Kyoto Steak House. Progress was seen when the Kyoto Hibachi chain was inaugurated in 1983, only to be later rechristened as Sato Steakhouse.

In 1995, the launch of the traditional Japanese restaurant, Inakaya, at the St. Andrews location was witnessed, followed by the Oneil Court location in 2000. The entrepreneurial spirit of Sato was not quenched, leading to the establishment of Furusato in Greenwood, SC in 2005, and the Tsubaki Karaoke Lounge in 2008, adjacent to Inakaya-Oneil Court. Here, a unique French-Japanese cuisine is served in a multi-cultural setting, complete with private karaoke rooms. The latest culinary endeavor was unveiled in 2012 with the Menkoi Ramen House, which quickly became a new sensation in downtown Vista. The Inakaya St Andrews location, a testament to Sato's legacy, was then sold and proudly renamed to Inakaya Watanabe by the esteemed chef Ryo Watanabe.

Inakaya Watanabe's Tradition Embraced

The stewardship of the Inakaya establishment at St. Andrews was transferred in March 2012 when sushi chef Ryosuke Watanabe, after 14 years of dedication to the craft, assumed ownership. The establishment was then bestowed with the new moniker, Inakaya Watanabe, in honor of the new chapter. The Watanabe family, hailing from the Yamagata region in Japan, was recognized for the exquisite sukiyaki dinners served at their family-run bed and breakfast. The culinary philosophy that Ryo Watanabe brings to the table is deeply influenced by his family's traditions. A commitment to the traditional style of cooking is upheld, with dishes and ingredients reflecting the same quality and authenticity as those enjoyed in his family home. The promise to offer the largest selection of the freshest fish mirrors Ryo's personal passion for sushi that is fresh, authentic, and unique.
